Lions Purple Heart Pups Project Helps Provide Guide Dogs for Injured Veterans

August 5, 2011

Many of our clubs support programs to provide guide dogs for people with visual and other impairments. One of our clubs in New York also helps provide guide dogs for returning veterans who have traumatic injuries.

The Merrick Lions Club, with the assistance of the Baldwin Lions Club, recently hosted a Fun Walk and Dog Show that raised $8,000 as part of its Purple Heart Pups Project. More than 300 people attended and nearly 200 participated in the walk, which was open to four-legged members of the family, too. The Purple Heart Pups Project started almost immediately after the club was charted in early 2009. Since then, the club has held three events to support the National Amputation Foundation and America’s VetDogs.

In this video, you’ll see how this event brought the community together for a great cause.
