Photo of the Week: Great Pootatuck Duck Race Raises Funds, Provides Family Fun
July 26, 2011
When it comes to raising funds, some of our clubs make quite a splash in their community. We found this week’s photo at NewsTimes.com.
As part of their annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race, Newtown Lions Club members sold 4,000 rubber ducks to raise funds for charity. This photo shows the Lions dumping the ducks into the Pootatuck River at the start of the race.

The St. Joseph Island Lions Club held a “Cow Patty Raffle” where a field was marked off into 1 ft. squares and the numbered plots were sold to individuals. On the day of the event, a stubborn cow was let into the field and 2 hours later a winner was declared when she deposited a paddy in the lucky winners square.

Definitely one of the more unusual fundraisers we’ve heard of! If you have photos, please email to me at eoconnor@lionsclubs.org
