President’s Service Blog: Collecting Funds for Japan, New York

June 14, 2011

As long as communities have unmet needs, there will be Lions clubs ready to serve. When Judy and I were in New York shortly after the disaster in Japan, we ran into a group of Lions raising funds.

The New York Japanese-American Lions Club was at Grand Central Station collecting money to send to the Lions Clubs International Foundation. So far, this club has sent $150,000 to the Lions Clubs International Foundation and it continues to raise money through a variety of projects and events to address the ongoing needs of the people of Japan.

The New York Japanese-American Lions Club proves that small donations and actions pooled together have the power to change lives. With efforts like this by Lions around the world, LCIF has mobilized US$15 million so far to help Japan. It’s through work like this that our members serve as beacons of hope.judyscruggsinnyc

“Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on earth.”
Well done, Lions – keep it up.
