Story of the Week: Leos Help Feed 10,000 in Haiti

April 15, 2011

In April, we celebrate Leo Club Awareness Month, recognizing the efforts of our 5,900 Leo clubs that encourage young people to volunteer and improve their communities. Also, today marks Global Youth Service Day, an event observed in more than 100 countries.  At a Leo Leadership Convention in North Carolina, Leos along with Lions partnered with Stop Hunger Now to package meals.

The 42 Leos assembled 10,000 rice-based, vegetarian meals in two hours. Stop Hunger Now will ship the food to Haiti for distribution at primary schools. Each meal provides essential nutrients designed for malnourished children. The program also encourages families to send their children to school where they know teachers will feed them.

In this video, you’ll see a Stop Hunger Now staff member discuss the importance of the Leos’ participation and Leos at work.
