Story of the Week: Lions Community Store in the UK Helps the Environment and Families

March 11, 2011

We recently visited a project of the Fleet Lions Club in England that protects the environment and helps people in need. Lions do all of this and more through the Lions Community Store, where area residents can drop off unwanted household items, both large and small.

Lions and other volunteers recycle the items, keeping them out of landfills, test electrical appliances to be sure that they work and store everything. Local social service agencies identify residents, mostly families, who need household furnishings, clothing and other supplies. Then it is time for them to go shopping at the store, where they can select at no cost everything from a toaster and refrigerator, to beds, sheets and pillows. Lions also deliver and pick up donated material.

This video will give you a peek at this signature Lions project that has helped more than 20,000 families since 1995.
