Story of the Week: Pekin Lions Club Holiday Baskets Bring Joy to the Season
Many of our clubs have supported the Relieving the Hunger Global Service Action Campaign. In Illinois, the Pekin Lions Club’s food distribution has provided families with a balanced holiday meal since 1947.
The club collects donations and boxes throughout the year. The local newspaper prints an application twice per week starting in September, and the club boxes food for 375 families.
The labor-intensive activity is the club’s signature service project. In this video, the holiday packaging begins at the Food Depot – and ends with families receiving chickens, eggs, bread, canned goods and freshly baked cookies from a jolly Santa Claus.
