Story of the Week: Lions Help Youth Soar to New Heights

October 21, 2010

Our “We Serve” motto works best when it’s learned early in life. That’s why many of our clubs partner with youth in their community by sponsoring a local Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop.

In Highland Village, Texas, Lions are the charter organization for BSA Troop 280. The Highland Village Lions Club supplies the funds for background checks and donates space at its annual Balloon Festival for troop fund-raising efforts. In return, parents in the troop park cars at the festival and the Scouts sell beverages to fair goers.

During this year’s festival, the club was eager to give us a behind-the-scenes look at the partnership. And the Scouts hosting their fundraiser – a “car bash” that gave attendees the chance to smash a car with a sledgehammer.
