Lions Story of the Week: President Scruggs’ First Visit to International Headquarters

July 30, 2010

This week, we welcomed International President Sid Scruggs. It was his first visit to our headquarters building in Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, since he was elected last month at international convention in Sydney, Australia.

President Scruggs and Mrs. Scruggs spent their time in the office working on official Lions business as well as meeting each member of the headquarters staff. We hope you’ll enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at their visit.

I am really proud to work as District Governor under the stewardship of Lion Sid L. Scruggs III.

My hearty welcome to Sid and his wife Judy to our International headquarters office. I am fortunate to take a picture of mine by sitting in the president’s chair during my visit to headquarters in December 2004. It was a great feeling in my 36 years of lionistic service and probably that might have prompted me to accept to become the unanimous choice as DG of our newly carved district 324-C9 for 2010-2011. I am very happy with slogan ‘be a beacon hope’ of our president Sid, a service slogan after a gap of many years. My slogan is ‘SERVE WITH COMPASSION.’ I am effectively implementing all programs in my district and producing a documentary in the last quarter. I am extending 9 clubs this August/September 2010 and membership growth of 200. 27 MJFs will be enrolled. Since this is a year of youth, I am extending 6 Leo clubs and forming a Leo district. Committed to achieve 5,000 cataract surgeries, 10,000 units of blood donation and 100 government schools adoptions to provide facilities for poor students. I wish the President an eventful and a memorable year of service.

As a PDG, my year went fast and I was proud to have served LCI during this informative year.

My wife Lion Delores and I wish you the best of luck during your year. May you and Mrs. S. enjoy your year. May our God Bless you all in all of your travels. Have a safe journey!

Emphasis on service rather than membership growth by the President has won him accolades from all corners of the world. Congratulations President sir.
