Story of the Week: Lions Quest STAR Tutors Program Changing Lives in Memphis

July 15, 2010

Around the world, our members work on projects and programs to help local children. Through Lions Quest, a schools-based life-skills program for children from kindergarten to 12th grade, Lions clubs in Tennessee are helping bring crucial life skills to classrooms.

In Memphis, Raleigh Egypt High School is one of many schools implementing Lions Quest. A key part of the program is the STAR Tutors Program that partners high school seniors with elementary school students to provide mentors and role models for the younger children.

The program is making a real difference for the students being mentored – and their mentors. According to Jordan Smith, a STAR Tutors volunteer, “It feels good because you don’t know what they’re going through. They might not have someone to talk to, and you might be the person that can change their life.”
